Chapels and resting places in the villages of Honnelles
These somewhat forgotten and sometimes neglected treasures are very rich in moving memories; they are the silent witnesses of a past that is not always so distant.
We can only stop before them, as our ancestors did many times in the past, take the time to imagine all these secrets revealed before the statue over time and dare to believe that later, our descendants will have the opportunity to do the same thing.
We must prevent these buildings from being neglected by both individuals and public authorities, and we must promote them by making them known to as many people as possible. This is what we invite you to discover in this almost exhaustive illustrated and annotated inventory dedicated to the ten villages that make up the entity of Honnelles. This unique catalog is extremely important for the preservation of small heritage sites. It is the result of work begun over thirty years ago and recounts many pages of local history interspersed with meetings with the Honnellois.
Numbered in alphabetical order of the ten villages of the entity (Angre, Angreau, Athis, Autreppe, Erquennes, Fayt-le-Franc, Marchipont, Montignies-sur-Roc, Onnezies, Roisin and its hamlet Meaurain), nearly ninety buildings are located on a map, allowing the reader to take maximum pleasure. That's all we want.

THE CHAPELS
Chapels are religious buildings with a roof, doors, and windows, and inside they feature an altar and seating. Some have the capacity to accommodate worshippers for Mass, thus resembling small churches.
Others, much smaller still, which are also found in large numbers in our countryside along the roadsides, have the same elements except for the seats, their restricted dimensions not allowing the holding of religious services. They remain, however, an occasional place of prayer for passers-by and pilgrims.
